Deep and inky in color, scents of cherry and plum are immediately identifiable and lead straight to decadent fullness in the mouth...
The Variety:
The California grape variety known as Petite Sirah is the same French grape variety known as ‘Durif,’ a descendant of the true Syrah of the famed Rhone Valley. This variety draws fans of its resulting deep-colored, robust and ageworthy wines. Petite Sirah is prized for its dark color and intense tannins with flavor profiles that include blueberry, pepper, blackberry and black cherry.
The Vintage:
Dry conditions in Lodi were dominant through late winter, followed by sufficient rain and an early spring. A combination of extreme cold and heat in the spring, followed by an early frost prior to harvest in October, resulted in a lower-than-average yield in Paso Robles. The exceptional grapes from these vineyards were enhanced by a small percentage of cool climate Central Coast fruit that intensifies tannins and aromas.
The Wine:
A favorite among Petite Sirah fans, the Huntington 2007 vintage boasts classic characteristics and tantalizing flavors. Deep and inky in color, scents of cherry and plum are immediately identifiable and lead straight to decadent fullness in the mouth. With heavy tannins and excellent aging power, this full-bodied wine boasts rich, dense fruit flavors as well as zinging notes of orange peel, cinnamon and blackberry that together provide pure luxury from sip to sip.
